An in-depth about the need to be relaxed#1: an Introduction

In a work for self-development where the main attentions are focused in making more and more efforts, giving more and more, etc…. often is forgotten one of the main grounds of an inner work: the art of being relaxed. This topic has been mentioned several times on the pages of this blog, but a reminder is never enough: “Repetitio est mater studiorum” (repetition is the “mother” of the students) said the wise Latins pointing also to the fact that we often need reminders, during our life-path in order to remember things so that we could learn something from them and make them useful for us- in this case, for our inner development. So, a ground we have to remember, consider, reconsider, put into practice and to make it our state of being.

What is relaxation in a work for inner development? Technically, it’s the constant work of removing the unnecessary tensions that fill our psychophysical field.

In order to accomplish this task, we need  constant attention not only during the moments of resting, but also during our daily activities. It’s a reciprocal maintenance: through a constant attention we can notice the tensions that happen inside of us and relaxing them as best as possible when they arise. Through such a kind of relaxation we teach ourselves to observe and keep under control our psychophysical field.

Indeed, developing a better state of awareness is deeply related to the state of tension/relaxation we have. First of all, we are individuals who expend energy, so the administration of the same is of capital importance for this specific job: if we do not have enough “energy”, we’ll be unable to perform the necessary  ‘efforts’ to achieve a state of self-remembering.  Secondly, we’ll notice that everything that happens in our mind and emotional field reflects itself also in our physical body, tensions included. We’ll also notice that these physical tensions harm the capacity to maintain a state of attention in various ways: for example, putting our attention to some regions of our body that are tensed could produce a feeling of discomfort that can be slight or strong, when in other parts, the tensions are so intense that, at the beginning, we’ll be unable to feel them.

In any case, such as it’s said that where there is tension there is no energy flow, we can state the same concerning our attention. It’s a statement easily verifiable by everyone of us without too much effort, except the effort of being  objective enough and sincere towards ourselves.

Why does this happens? If some part of the body is tensed for a long period of time, this will produce a blood and nerve congestion, so the receptive nerves of this area will become inhibited, namely unable to correctly and efficiently send information to the brain. In this way we become unable to feel this part of the body or the same act of focusing on this part will produce discomforts of various kinds.

We can see these tensions as obstacles to a balanced function of our psychophysical structure. During our lifetime we have all accumulated and still continue to accumulate tons of blockages: psychological traumas from childhood transmutate to emotional blocks that begin to reflect themselves as chronic physical tension; useless stress we accumulate day after day during our life, our work, conversations, fears about things that could happen, relationships…. and we bring all this home with us, even to our bed when we should really rest, in order to regenerate our system for the next day and, this situation will increase every day more and more until it also harms our health, if this hasn’t yet happened.

But, what can we do to stop this perpetual cycle of tensions? Is it possible, really possible to relax ourselves? How must we act?

What has to be understood is that we lack our natural balance, and this balance can only be increased in intensity through  attention. Even if we  pray in order to resolve a specific disease, we’ll need a degree of attention on the object we wish to “heal”. It’s not a thing that we have to be happy and smile about every moment of our life, even this is an imbalance: we have to increase our balance through increasing the attention we put on ourselves, both inwards (emotions and thoughts) and outwards (tensions, postures, movements of our physical mean). For the reason that the body is the most “maleable” between the three fields of which we are composed (the other two fields are the emotional and the mental), we can act in order to eliminate, step-by step, with patience, every block and tension we notice. This work has to be performed as often as possible, if not always. In resonance, even our thoughts and emotions will become more gentle, less congested and harmful. In such a way, we’ll begin to develop the habit of being relaxed, the first step to develop relaxation as a state of being.

To mu omogućuje kreiranje osobnosti neovisne i otporne na vanjske situacije i vanjska uvjetovanja. Posljedice takvog razvoja su oštra inteligencija, izvanredni kreativni kapaciteti, ravnoteža i smirenost u svakoj situaciji i stabilno stanje višeg stanja svijesti koje je poznato u drevnim tradicijama pod nazivom “buđenje”.
