Breaking the Windows with a Stone Paper

A Way to Objectice Consciousness

What is the Spirit of a self development teaching? A monk, sitting in meditation posture, whit the eyes opened, apparently looking into nothing. What is he doing? Is he thinking about something? How could we explained what is he doing in that moment? We can’t explain it… not because we are not Zen monks, or for the reason that this is a strange culture or for the reason we don’t belive in reincarnation or because we are Christians or Muslims and not Zen practitioners.

We don’t need to find the correct way to explain something who hasn’t a “Why”… our question “How….?” is an inappropriate tool to approach that task.Indeed, the act of expaining means taking a fact or situation and filter him trough a thought, moral, ethical, philosophical or historical fields, various notions gained during our developmental experience labeling him so that he could be understandable to us and, in particular, to our mind.

So, a natural event, such as, for example, the flow of the water, can be explained from the field of the currents, generated by the forces acting upon this mean flow, such as breaking waves, wind, Coriolis force, temperature and salinity differences and tides caused by the gravitational pull of the Moon and the Sun; or an interpretation of the flow the life, the impermanence of the things and experiences or as the manifestation of the Water principle in the field of matter.

But the flow of the water has his reality, his existence, his life, independently from every concept or theory who tries to explain it. The thing is simple: in the flowing of the water there’s anything that has to be explained, labeled or valued: it exists, that’s all!

The various interpretations can only limit the experience in mere concepts, enclosing it in a concept understandable in relation by all the information we have aquired during our life experience- or, better said, during our life non-experience: indeed, the “experiences” we claim to have aquired are generally only informations gained from external sources such as books, school, parents, television… and not from a direct, unconditioned experience.

Every interpretation or explanation is only a shadow, a photo from a determined point of view, a partial hologram of reality; all similar interpretations, claims to explain exhaustively the object of their examination. Our mind functions in such way, and this is the reason why we can’t perceive anything in his totality, seeing it as it is. Experiencing objectively a fact, a manifestation or a situation using the mind as we ordinary do, it’s impossible such as it’s impossible to break a window throwing a stone paper!

The way of Zen, Buddhism, Toaism and other systems is the way to objectivity. And, objectivity is the gate to perceive the realty as it is, without interferences or filters. Reality is the object before every interpretation, before the creation of a labelling or a photo from a point of view: it’s the window before our illusion of breaking her whit a stone paper, and at the same time is the stone paper seen as it is (an illusion). Reality can be experienced directly only before every kind of explanation.

That’s the reason why we can’t explain the spirit of a self development practice, what we cant perceive what the Zen or Buddhist monks are experiencing in a particular moment. All what is explainable, understandable and acquired is the opposite of Real and Objective.

In many explanations of meditation practices, we find the suggestion of sitting without doing anything… and this is the real gateway to enter in the field of Reality. But, as usual, this suggestion is liable to misunderstandings for the reason that when reading this instruction we label her according to our previous experiences: idleness, inactivity, rest, and any other condition that is usually designated in that way.

And, once more, this is the limitation of our language, our conceptual mind that can only make a description, and, of course, this description is a Real thing limited in an interpretation. This is the reason why many effective systems explains the reality what negations, what it isn’t instead of what it is. So, meditation is explained as an act of non- doing to distinguish her from any usual way of acting who requires some kind of interpretation. In fact, differently of every other human’s action where only the future results are of value, meditation hasn’t any goal or some kind of reward: when we search Enlightenment practicing meditation, we move away from the Aim.

“A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving” said Lao Tzu. The Absolute, Objective Reality is explained as Emptiness, and this is intended as a fact outward every explanation or interpretation… a fact that can be only experienced. This is an attempt of explaining whit words what is inexplicable- the path towards what is essential, and when related whit human development, a path towards the Essence, our True Self. That’s all!

Essence means Being, namely the quality of all what exists. But what exists, it just not need a reason, a purpose, a purpose for existing! He doesn’t need to do something to exist, and even a theory that supports and justifies that existence! That’s the reason why meditation is not-doing, emptiness…. Wu Wei!

The paradox is that, instead of searching an answer,an instantaneous Way, we lose all our efforts in questions: “Who Am I” (I Am, I Exist, that’s all!); “What’s my life purpose?” (but, has life any really purpose to justify one’s existence?)

“Searching ourselves” is one of the main worries of every man who’s walking the path of self development… and this is a noble, but at the same time an absurd task: how we can’t find ourselves when we are the only concrete thing that we can experience directly? What we see is at the same time our eyes… what we touch is our hands, our tactile capacity… what we experience in a situation are our emotions and all what we think, imagine, is our mind.

Where we can be hidden when we are at the same time all what we perceive as external? In what determined place we have to find us when the whole world, the whole Universe is at the same time what we are?

Searching the Truth is absurd, because we are that Truth! That’s the essence of the teaching of all the Great Masters, of all what they said. the truth is not abstract, alien to what we are: Truth is so simple that we ignore it because of this simplicity. And, that happens because we think that Truth is something different, particular… or complicated!

No, Truth is so simple as a breath!

“I teach that when it rains, the sidewalk get wet”said Gurdjieff. Wat is here complicated? Our illusion of labelling all what we see, experience and perceive, that’s what is complicated, because Truth doesn’t need any interpretation… Truths Is, exists as it is, and the way to Live that Trtuh lies in the practice of simple existing, the conscious affirmation of one’s Being, “here and now”, and that means “everywhere and always”.

Andrea Dandolo je pisac i istražitelj razvoja svijesti i duhovnosti uključen u razotkrivanje drevnih učenja s ciljem olakšavanja unutarnjeg razvoja ljudskih bića.
